The airport is under the control of the India Navy. Prior

Port Blair -
Located on South Andaman Island is the capital city of the Andaman and Nicobar
Islands or administrative center of the Union Territory. Its seafront Cellular
Jail is also known as Kala Pani (translated as
"Black Waters"), a name given to it due to the torture and general
ill-treatment towards its Indian convicts, completed in 1906, hints at its past
as a British penal colony and is now a The National Memorial to Indian
independence activists. The Cellular Jail is now considered a landmark for the
entire Andaman and Nicobar Islands. It is often the first place to be visited
by the innumerable tourists and even the foreign dignitaries. The Martyrs
Memorial inside the jail will transport you back to the torturous days.
The flogging stand, oil mill, gallows and other instruments of punishment are
displayed there. There sight might give you goosebumps and make you shudder.

Ross Island-
It is officially known as Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Island, is an island of
the Andaman Islands. It belongs to the South Andaman administrative district,
Andaman and Nicobar Islands. The island is situated 3 km east from central Port
Blair. The historic ruins are a tourist attraction. Named after the famous marine surveyor - Sir
Daniel Ross, Ross Island was once the playground of the
higher-ups of the British Administrator of the penal colony in Port Blair. In
1941, the Japanese converted the site into POW camp, and built war
installations, remnants of which can still be seen. It now lies deserted, and
the few signs of its colonial glory, such as the Chief Commissioner's house and
the Presbyterian Church, are dilapidated and overgrown. The area is now under
the control of Indian Navy.

North Bay Island-
This is one among the most popular and beautiful Island in Andaman. North
Bay Island offers people with beautiful coral reefs alluring to visitors who
are visiting this Island. North bay is best place to enjoy various water sports
activities such as snorkeling, scuba diving, Jet Ski, Under Sea Walk, Glass Bottom
Boat ride and semi submarine etc. Apparently, the light house seen at

Havelock Island-
official known as Swaraj Island, is one of the largest Island in the Andaman
Islands. Havelock Island is named after a British General “Sir Henry Havelock”
who served in India. In Dec 2018 is was named “Swaraj Island” by Prime Minister
“Shri Narendra Damodardas Modi”
as a tribute to “Subhash Chandra Bose”. Bose had hoisted the Indian flag at Port
Blair on 30 December 1943 and proclaimed the Andaman and Nicobar Islands as
territories liberated from British rule. He had subsequently named Andaman
Island as Shaheed and Nicobar Island as Swaraj. Havelock is one of the few
places that the administration of the Andaman and Nicobar Islands union
territory of India has permitted and encouraged development of tourism, with a
focus on promoting Eco –Tourism.

Neil Island – Officially
known as “Shaheed Island” located in Rithie’s Archipelago. It belongs to the
South Andaman and 36Km northeast from Port Blair. It is apparently named after
James George Smith Neill, a British soldier who had sternly dealt with the
insurgents during the suppression of the 1857 Mutiny. Neil Island offer wide range to attractions to
their tourist such as Bharatpur Beach, Sitapur Beach, Laxmanpur Beach, Howrah
Bridge is a natural Rock and Sir Hugh Rose Island etc. These beaches are named
after the characters of epic “Ramayana”.

Bharatpur Beach

Ross & Smith
Islands is also known as Twin Islands and connected with a 50 meters narrow
sand bar and its seashore is bordered with thick tropical forest. Its sparkling
blue water and sunny beaches makes it a heaven for sun-bathing, swimming and water
adventure activities like Snorkeling and Scuba Diving. Ross & Smith Islands
are home to the Olive Ridley turtles and just near the beach is the turtle
nesting point and marine sanctuary, where you can witness the turtle nesting.
To visit these islands, a speed boat can be hired and the ride would take
around 25 mins from the Ariel Bay Jetty in Diglipur. What makes these islands
truly beautiful and sets them different from other islands is a natural, sand
bar who connects to both Islands. During high tide, the sand bar disappears
leaving a trail of water between the two islands and during low tide the sand
bar appears again making the islands look majestic. This is an ideal place for
spotting beautiful coral reefs and colorful species from the underwater. The
beach is surrounded by tropical forests and is a preferred place for trekking
and trail hiking by many tourists. The clear blue waters add a touch of

Ramnagar Beach
is located at a distance of 35 Kms. from Diglipur. This eco-friendly beach

arrangements have been provided. The beach is surrounded by palm and coconut
trees and other coastal shrubs. The beach bay is lovely with clear blue water,
calm sea and yellowish sand. This beach is suitable for swimming and snorkeling

Mud Volcano are
located at a place locally known as 'Jal Tikry' near 'Hathi level' around 25
kms. from Diglipur. To experience the chain of Mud Volcanoes in the green jungle
of Shyam Nagar at Diglipur, tourist/visitor need to trek for 15 minutes in the
semi-evergreen forests to reach Mud Volcano. At the initial point, bigger and
dormant mud volcano can be sighted. On proceeding further for few minutes fresh
emerging mud volcanoes could be seen. Mud volcano is a natural wonder, hidden
in the dense forests of Diglipur. There is a series of small muddy craters that
have been erupting mud for quite a few years now. These craters are created by
natural gases emitted by decaying organic matter underground which slowly push
the mud upwards. Visitor can wander around 41 active muddy craters, enjoying
the surrounding nature and wildlife.

Saddle Peak - The
grand Saddle Peak, located in Diglipur, blessed with lush evergreen forest and provide
the best view of the beautiful coast of North and Middle Andaman. Its 732 meters
from sea level and highest point of the archipelago in the Bay of Bengal. The
surroundings are a bio-diverse nature paradise as the thick jungle offers home
to over 13 indigenous bird’s species, 36 indigenous species of insects and 6
species of indigenous trees. Due to the richness of the forest territory it is
now made into a National Park. Saddle Peak is popular for trekking with steep
climb of 8 Km and perfect place to experience adventure activities. Kalpong,
the only river of Andaman’s flows through the forest and offers a refreshing
fresh drinkable water. The path follows the beach and then cuts through
different types of jungle up to the top. There are three viewpoints and the
middle one is the best to get a bird’s eye view of the islands nearby. Saddle

Baratang Island
offer best experience of the tropical side of the Andaman Islands. Baratang

Limestone Caves
is a treat to watch. It is about 90 km away from Port Blair. The journey on to
these cave is equally mesmerizing which covers all the way through Tribal
reserves. Travellers may also catch as a glimpse of a sun-bathing crocodile
with its jaws wide open and a stone like still that camouflaged in the
mangroves. It is a cave with interesting limestone structures and stalactite
and stalagmites. These natural caves are a splendid sight.
Some of the important items which people can carry along
with them during this journey include sufficient water (at least one liter per
person), umbrella during summer season, head caps, napkins. Wearing canvas
shoes is a better idea.

Best Time to Visit
Andaman, the weather is good throughout the year with summers heating up to
35 degrees and winters getting down to 15 degrees. However, October to May is more
pleasant to visit with moderate climatic conditions. For water sports lover
April to July is the excellent time.
